Emily Chao

UX designer, previously @ Amazon – I specialize in UX, user research, visual design, and product strategy.

Setting up new tech can be complicated. What if we could change that narrative? I'm here to bridge the gap between humans and technology, ensuring technology fits seamlessly into our lives – not the other way around.

My past work covers a wide range of industries including microbiome testing, women's health, education, and Fintech.

Women’s Health

Saving trips to the hospital for prenatal mothers - I led the UX research practice to define the core product.

Bloomlife's contraction tracker helps prenatal mothers identify false contractions, preventing unnecessary hospital trips. Its mobile app shares contraction trends and insights on when to expect labor.

In my role, I led design, strategy, and research for the core mobile product. I synthesized insights from 50+ in-person user research sessions, shaping the company's initial app launch. I covered device and app setup, data visualization, and seamless integration across hardware, software, and native iOS and Android apps.

Fintech

Bringing in UX talent for Fidelity - I designed an onboarding experience to attract new UX talent.

Fidelity Investments is a company that helps people with their money. They offer services like managing investments, planning for retirement, and providing different types of financial products.

I led efforts to create a web experience to attract new UX talent for Fidelity on their careers site. This involved crafting a more approachable brand for the fintech sector. Although the product never launched, I learned to delegate tasks and leverage data to get stakeholder buy-in.

Kid's Education

Inspiring the next generation of innovators - I managed the development of educational monthly kits to inspire children ages 9-16 to create.

KiwiCo’s provides subscription-based educational crates for children. Each monthly crate contains hands-on projects and activities designed to promote learning in various subjects. I helped launch Doodle Crate monthly crates, and led the end-to-end design, strategy, and research for this product line.
